Acolytes
The ministry of an acolyte is to actively assist the celebrant leading the congregation in the worship of God.
Acolytes serve in numerous ways: lighting the candles before the service begins, leading the way in the procession, and assisting the deacon with the reading of the gospel. In preparation for the Eucharist, an acolyte assists the celebrant as they prepare to serve communion. As worship comes to a close, the acolyte’s responsibility includes extinguishing the altar candles and leading the procession from the church out into the world to love and serve.
Children third grade and above, as well as youth and adults are welcome to serve as an acolyte at St. James.
