WELCOME HOME

Where you belong

At St. James Episcopal Church, worship is the heart of our life together. Each time we gather, we join in prayer, Scripture, music, sacrament, and fellowship as the people of God. Rooted in the beauty and tradition of the Episcopal Church, our worship invites all people to encounter Christ in meaningful and life-giving ways. Whether you have worshiped in the Episcopal tradition for years or are stepping through our doors for the first time, there is a place for you here.

Our services follow the liturgies found in the Book of Common Prayer and typically use either Rite I or Rite II. Rite I reflects more traditional Elizabethan language, often cherished for its reverence and timeless beauty, while Rite II uses contemporary language that many find approachable and familiar. Though the language may differ, both rites proclaim the same Gospel, celebrate the same sacraments, and draw us into the same shared worship of God.

Worship at St. James is not something we simply watch—it is something we do together. Every person present helps shape the worshiping life of the church through prayer, song, presence, and service. Many members of our parish take part in specific ministries that help create a welcoming, prayerful, and reverent experience for all who gather.

Our acolytes assist during worship by carrying the cross, lighting candles, and serving at the altar, helping lead the congregation with reverence and care. The Altar Guild faithfully prepares the sanctuary and sacred vessels for each service, quietly supporting the beauty and order of worship behind the scenes. Through music, our choir enriches worship and helps lead the congregation in praise and prayer.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God through the reading of Scripture, while Lay Eucharistic Ministers assist in administering Holy Communion during services. Eucharistic Visitors extend the presence of the church beyond our walls by bringing Communion and prayer to those who are homebound or unable to attend worship in person. Greeters and ushers offer hospitality and guidance, helping all who enter feel welcomed and cared for from the moment they arrive. Counters serve faithfully in stewardship and accountability, while worship leaders and volunteers help coordinate many aspects of parish worship and liturgical life.

Each ministry, whether seen or unseen, plays an important role in offering worship that glorifies God and strengthens the community of faith. These acts of service are more than tasks—they are ministries of devotion, hospitality, and love.

There are many ways to participate in the worship life of St. James, and we encourage everyone to discover where God may be calling them to serve. Whether through music, reading, hospitality, prayer, or caring for others, every gift has a place in the life of the Church.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.
